How to Write and Market Articles
All writing begins with an idea. This idea may be an original one, but most times it is based on something we have read, discussed with others, or heard explained by someone else. Our mind processes this input and ideas begin to emerge.
If you are in the process of becoming an expert authority in your niche or ready to start content marketing, read as much as you possibly can on your topic by everyone who is currently in that space. While I was a classroom teacher I noted that it was the students who did the most reading who became the best writers and overall students. Reading about your topic will give you food for thought as you begin to brainstorm new ideas.
Start making a list of the topics you are going to write about from within your niche topic. If you aren’t quite sure what to include, go to a site such as http://Wikipedia.org. I have found this site to be extremely helpful in filling in the details for what I need to do in order to do my best writing on a variety of topics.
I keep a list of topics on a notepad next to my computer. I may get an idea from something I read online, from a conversation I have with someone, or from something I have been thinking about. Right now my notepad has notes on it about steps to online success, the origin of the term ‘self-help’, and about creating an audio information product in an hour. These are all ideas for my business overall, yet I will still take the time to turn them into articles during the next few days. Everything I do or think about becomes an article, as I have already stated.
The very best articles – those which are read the most and bring you the most recognition – are those which solve a problem or at least answer a question for your prospect. In other words, use your article as an opportunity to show the reader that you not only care about their needs, but also have an answer or a solution to offer them right now. This will make it much more likely that they will click on your link.
